Marina Weisband was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1987. Six years later her family moved to Germany as refugees. She completed her high school education in 2006 and went on to study psychology at the University of Münster. She undertook voluntary work with the 3×3 Wuppertal Parents’ Association e.V. which supports migrant families. From 2011 to 2012 she was political director of the German Pirate Party, responsible for forming opinions within the party and representing it externally. To leave time to complete her diploma she did not stand for re-election in 2012. Education and civil participation are Marina’s political priorities. In her book “Wir nennen es Politik” (“We call it politics”, 2013, published by Tropen) she outlines for newcomers to politics the potential of the Internet to create new forms of democracy.
She has been director of the aula project since 2014, part of politik-digital.de.
